TY Garda Talk
On September the 26th, the TY year group received a road safety talk from Dave Barren, a Garda in the Traffic Corps.
The talk was very eye-opening and engaging. Garda Barren talked about the harsh reality of not wearing a seatbelt, driving too fast and the dangers of drink driving. He also showed us advertisements that showed the horrors of driving intoxicated and even a video of a real crash. He showed us statistics such as how one in seventy-seven Irish people die as a result of road crashes, and how going 60 km/hr has a 60% chance of killing a person if they were hit.
Garda Barren made sure to keep us engaged by making the content of the talk relevant to us, instead of it being outdated. This made the year group more involved in the talk and it allowed more information to be received.
Throughout the talk, he made sure to repeat one phrase, which seems very fitting to end this blog with.
“Nobody has the right to decide if you live or die”
