TY Green Schools ‘Waste Workshop’

Today, two TY classes, 4G and 4H who have the Green Schools ‘year-long’ module were lucky enough to take part in an online workshop that took place in the library and focused on Water and Litter and Waste. This workshop was run by the Rediscovery Centre situated in Ballymun by one of their really friendly and helpful employees. Even through Zoom the workshop managed to be an interesting and engaging experience!

The class of 4G received the water talk and learned the science behind water, geography of it and where it comes from. At the very end, students got to carry out their own experiment/craft of sorts and created a filter using the supplies they had previously been advised to bring in.

The class of 4H received the talk on Litter and Waste, I was lucky enough to experience this one! We went through how much litter and waste is produced in Ireland each year, per person and per country, and its effects on our carbon footprint. We also went through the amount of money that is wasted on food waste. At the end, our class also carried out a craft. We were given the task of creating a new reusable bag, out of old plastic bags for life, they turned out pretty well as seen in the many photos below!
