"Xplore Your Future" Fingal TY Skills Expo

On the 15th of October 2024, Myself and all the TYs who did not attend the P.E trip to Killary went to the Fingal Careers Expo hosted in The Helix in DCU for all the TYs in Fingal schools. The expo was filled with many different careers from many different sectors.

As well as careers, there were other stalls that gave insights into apprenticeships for different areas and also stalls run by colleges that gave information about the specific courses that they offered.  You had the ability to talk to the representatives of the stands and ask questions that would help your understanding of the career, apprenticeship or course you were looking at. Another benefit of this expo was that there were also stands that allowed you to sign up for extra stuff to do with the career of your choice, for example while visiting the Irish Institute of Music and Song's stall, I learnt about an exciting music competition they encouraged me to consider. They really brought my attention to this opportunity, and it made me see the expo as not just about careers, but also a place to discover unique events and experiences within my field of interest.  As well as all of this, you were also able to get leaflets from each stall, a ton of freebies, and everyone got a goodie bag at the end.

In my opinion this expo was such a great opportunity to learn more about the career or field you'd like to get into and also a great opportunity to learn or find out about a career, course, or apprenticeship you had no interest in before. If you didn't go to this careers expo, I would highly suggest attending the careers fair on November 13th because if it's anything like the expo I attended, then it should be a great, helpful and an informative experience. I walked away from this expo with new insights and a clearer idea of my next steps.
