Focus Ireland 'Shine a Light on Homelessness' Sleep Out

On October 13th, our TY students participated in a sleepout for Focus Ireland to raise money to fight homelessness in Ireland. Many students gathered in the gym with sleeping bags, mattresses and even tents to survive the twelve hours away from home. While we organised ourselves in the days leading up to the sleepout, we understand the importance of supporting homeless individuals. While we would be able to return to our warm and safe homes, those living on the streets could only hope to do the same. In order to participate in the event, TYs had to fundraise money for this great cause. By the end of our fundraising campaign we managed to raise a fantastic €5242.00.

There were several activities to enjoy throughout the evening too. These included karaoke, face painting and a movie. Finally, around 11pm we settled down in an attempt to sleep. We now began to understand how difficult it can be for homeless people as we tried to keep warm and tune out the distractions.

At eight o’clock the following morning, the TYs filed out of school, tired, ready for the weekend and proud of the money they had raised for charity.
