Tim Durham Photography Workshop

The duration of the workshop was two full school days - 9:10am till 4pm. Tim supplied digital cameras for use during the workshop. We learned how to use the cameras and we went out to photograph in the afternoon of the first day. The workshop was limited to 12 students and we each showed what photos we came up with on the second and final day. We received some constructive criticism on how we could enhance the photos and make them more visually appealing. 

In this workshop we learned how to make high quality photos of our artwork. These photos help us create a strong first impression in others of our work. This workshop showed us how to achieve the best results in our photos no matter what camera we have available. 

“Often artists submit images that appear like they were shot in dimly lit environments. If the photo is too small, or out of focus, or if there are problems with colour, lighting or shadows, then you are not showing a true representation of your work. Your piece will appear poorly constructed and the colours will be misrepresented.” -visualartist.ie

Tim Durham is a photographic artist. He holds an MFA (Photography) from the University of Ulster. He is interested in architectural interiors, boundaries and borders, the etymology of words and portraiture. For the past 12 years he has been teaching artists how to photograph their own work. Born in 1963, Tim’s roots are in nature, abstract and travel photography, and over time his direction has shifted towards exploring the themes of entropy and physical memories of motion. -draiocht.ie

He showed us how photos can be portrayed in different ways. He cropped photos he had taken and we were to guess what object he was photographing. He told us stories about his experiences as his passion for photography brought him to numerous different countries to capture animals, flowers, nature, people and many more.
