Junk Kouture 2022

For the first time in 3 years, our TY’s put on the show of a lifetime on Tuesday 13th of December with their Junk Kouture 2022 show. From August to December, the students were working vigorously to create the most spectacular and out of this world show yet. With many students in the school unfortunately not having the opportunity to see a Junk Kouture show within the school due to Covid, this show wanted to pull out all the stops which it certainly did so and more!

In the lead up to the show, there were two full days of dress rehearsal, one with full hair and makeup and one without. During these rehearsals, the students practised their performances that they would use on the night. Not one routine was similar to another. Each and every one was unique and different; each with the personality of the performer and the tone of the dress shining through. With the addition of the amazing lighting and sound system that was brought in specially for the show, it was all set for the night!

Finally, the big day arrived and you could feel the excitement in the air. First thing done in the morning was the girls got into full hair and makeup. This showcased the wide range of artistic talent that our art students are capable of as the makeup was able to completely transform the students. Next was the final dress rehearsals and it was at this time that everything fell into place and the show finally felt like the real deal. After some food and a bit of fine tuning, the first two shows were performed for the 6th years and 3rd years of the school. These shows were a major hit and the audience was spellbound by the creations and performances.

Before the final show the girls got their photos taken while dressed in their final outfits with all their hair and makeup done. These photos were taken to be sent in for the actual Junk Kouture competition against students from schools all around the country and then the world in the later stages of the competition. The teachers had a full setup with a white background and L.E.D lights in the sewing room. The pictures were taken by the art teachers with guidance on how to pose, with close up shots of details on the outfits taken too.

That night was the final show, in front of parents and anyone else who bought tickets. Obviously, there were nerves in the air but the girls had been preparing for so long that they were ready to showcase their designs and just go out there and have the time of their lives. They certainly brought the wow factor as the show was unbelievable. The crowd was amazing as they cheered and encouraged every single routine and the atmosphere was unforgettable. Backstage, the girls were all hyping each other up and congratulating those who had just performed. When it came to the finale, it was amazing seeing all the models together with bright smiles on their faces.

Many thanks to all of those who attended the show and to those who made it all possible. From the TY’s who worked on the lights, the sound crew, the slideshow managers and to the art teachers. A special thanks to Ms Bailey who had all three TY art classes this year and had to put in extra effort to help every team with their outfits. The show was an inspiration to all the young art students of the school and was a truly unforgettable experience.
