On Friday the 6th December, four Loreto Balbriggan students attended the Soroptimist’s Public Speaking Competition at the HSBC bank in Dublin. They had been practicing their speeches very intensely for the week before and, on the day of the competition, were filled with butterflies before they spoke. However, all the speakers were highly commended by the judges for their speeches on various topics ranging from human rights to the environment to democracy. The speeches were all extremely engaging and moving - with the crowd feeling the great emotion behind each speaker’s voice. There was a very difficult decision before the judges when choosing the two speakers that would advance to the next round but in the end, Loreto Balbriggan did amazingly! One TY student managed to proceed to the next round, which takes place in January, while a fifth year student was named as the reserve. After the nerve-racking, exciting night, the spectators had all learned a great deal and the girls went home extremely proud of their confidence and powerful delivery!
